Overview
The J-10 ‘Vigorous Dragon’ is China’s indigenous fourth-generation multirole fighter, representing a major milestone in Chinese aerospace capability. The latest J-10C variant features an AESA radar and is considered comparable to the F-16 Block 70.
Design & Development
Development began in the 1980s, reportedly with Israeli technical assistance from the Lavi program. The J-10 uses a delta-canard configuration with a single engine, digital fly-by-wire controls, and glass cockpit. The J-10C added an AESA radar, reduced radar cross-section, and PL-15 long-range missile capability.
Operational History
Over 600 J-10s serve with the PLAAF and have been exported to Pakistan as the J-10CE. The type forms the backbone of Chinese tactical fighter strength alongside the J-16 and J-20.
