Overview
The Su-57 Felon is Russia’s fifth-generation stealth fighter, designed to compete with the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II. It combines stealth characteristics, supermaneuverability, supercruise capability, and advanced avionics in a large, twin-engine airframe.
Design & Development
The Su-57 features all-moving vertical and horizontal tail surfaces, 3D thrust vectoring, an internal weapons bay, and a distributed sensor network including L-band radar arrays in the wing leading edges. Its planned AL-51F1 engines will enable true supercruise capability.
Operational History
Development has been slower than planned, with limited production. The aircraft saw its first combat deployment in Syria in 2018 for operational testing. Russia plans to acquire 76 Su-57s, though production rates remain modest.
